Our Story

Established in September 2018, IKON Energy Solutions Inc specializes in surface casing presets and shallow drilling services. The history of the company dates back to 1976, when owner WD Martin’s father founded Bill Jr’s Rathole Drilling with one rig setting conductor rat and mouse holes in the Uintah Basin of northeastern Utah. In the late 1990s, WD Martin’s father branched out and bought his first “Air” rig to begin setting surface casing. Shortly after, he founded a cement company called Big 4 Cementing, running a fleet of six Ingersol Rand/Atlas Copco RD20 rigs.

WD Martin went to work for his father’s drilling company in 2004. In 2007, his father sold both companies to ProPetro Services. WD held various roles over the years, including a position as drilling manager from 2009 to 2018. In September 2018, he acquired the Rocky Mountain drilling assets from ProPetro and founded IKON Energy Solutions.

At this time, we currently own two drill rigs with our primary operations being in the DJ Basin of Colorado. We have formed great relationships in this basin with various top-tier oil and gas companies. We strive to conduct our business with the highest emphasis on the health and safety of our employees, as well as the environment. This is reflected through our most recent addition to our fleet with the Schramm T200XD. This rig offers the best-in-class HSE enhancements, such as automated pipe handling, as well as the ability to use the Volant CRT casing tool. Also, to our knowledge, we are the only drilling contractor that has implemented a “skid rail” system for the T200XD. This allows us to skid the rig from well to well on a drill site without the need to break down the drill equipment and use trucks or heavy equipment to move 10-15 feet to the next well. This further enhances the safety of our people with less moving parts for this process, while also saving our customers money. We can often skid from “well to well” in under 30 minutes.

The shallow drilling services offered by IKON Energy Solutions include daywork and turnkey surface casing presets. We provide these services for clients all over the Rocky Mountain region. We have all the equipment and transportation vehicles necessary to handle drilling operations for these clients.
